The Mission of the Deacon Ministry of the Mount Aery Baptist Church is to be the watchful guardians of the purity and good order of the church, maintaining a healthy tone of piety and Christian activities in the body of Christ.
It has been said that necessity is the mother of invention. That was the case in the early church at Jerusalem. A need arose that necessitated the establishment of what we now call the deacon ministry.
“And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration. Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.” Acts 6:1-2
These verses reveal the dual responsibilities of the deacons that we adhere to at “the Mount”. We see that the deacons had the responsibility of meeting the needs of the people (their widows were neglected) and the pastors (it is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables).
The history and legacy of Mount Aery Baptist Church Deacons speaks to our commitment and faith. From the first ordained deacon of this church in 1927, Deacon Herschel Nelson, to the deacons that serve today. There are gifts such as time and attention that awaken our ability to express affection and love through giving. Giving of our time is irreplaceable and we continue to strive to be God’s hands delicately and abundantly praying, serving, and leading with humility and by faith.
Our prayer for each and every one of you, Mount Aery, is that you may prosper in every way and that your body may keep well, even as your soul keeps well and prospers. We solicit your prayers also, for God’s Strength and His abundant Grace for all the deacons, to serve faithfully. For we believe that only what we do for Christ will last.
